The village Zymovyshche

The left bank of Prypiat river

Zymovyshche is a former village located on the left bank of Pripyat River, 6 kilometers from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and 20 kilometers from the former district center, the city of Chernobyl.

The time of foundation of the village is not established. It is known that in 1887 353 people already lived there.

1900 in 81 yards lived 535 inhabitants, engaged mainly in agriculture. In the village there was a literacy school and worked 3 windmills.

The central estate of the Pripyatsky collective farm, which included a machine-tractor station, was located in Zymovyshche. Now here you can still see the remains of cars, quite well preserved bulldozer, combines “Niva”, bases of trucks, old crawler tractor, seeders and other special equipment.

There was an eight-year school, a club, a library, a shop in the village.

By 1986 Zymovyshche was part of the Chernobyl region and was the center of the village council.

Before the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, about 800 people lived in the village.

After the accident at the nuclear power plant on April 26, 1986, the village was resettled due to severe contamination with radionuclides. Residents were relocated to the villages of Lukashi and Rudnitskoe of the Baryshevsky district. Officially removed from the register in 1999, due to the lack of residents.
