Transporting of nuclear fuel and tourism in the Chernobyl zone

Since 8 June 2021, in the Chernobyl exclusion zone started transporting of nuclear fuel from ISF-1 to ISF-2, which affected touristic life of the «forbidden area».

The thing is, auto roads on the container wagon route are closed on weekdays approximately from 9:30 to 12:45. So, it is impossible at that time to visit locations of the Chernobyl zone, which are on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant territory and nearby: the observation deck of the station, the city of Pripyat, the village of Kopachi, etc. Therefore, on weekdays we adjust our tourist routes to new conditions.

ISF is a spent fuel storage facility, where fuel is held, but it can be used again.

ISF-1 is a wet type spent fuel storage facility, which is located near the observation deck of the ChNPP and the New Safe Confinement.

ISF-2 is a dry type spent fuel storage facility in front of unfinished cooling towers of the ChNPP.
