Tourism in the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant

     The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone has long become a center of tourism in Ukraine.

 

     Since 2004, about 870 people have visited Chernobyl.

     People from different countries began to go to Chernobyl and Pripyat en masse after the release of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in 2007. In the same year, about 2 thousand people visited the forbidden territory.

     In 2009, Forbes magazine named the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant the most “exotic” place for tourism on Earth.

     In 2010, Chernobyl was visited by 5 thousand people. In 2014 - 8 thousand people. In 2016 - 36 thousand people.

     In 2018, 63 thousand tourists visited the Exclusion Zone, and the number of people is growing every year.

     In 2019, the Chernobyl mini-series, created by the American television channel HBO, was released. According to forecasts in 2019, about 120 thousand people will visit the Exclusion Zone.

 

     In each tour operator you can find on the site an excursion program to visit Chernobyl and Pripyat. As a rule, this is: “Dityatki” checkpoint - passing through passport control, so if you forget your passport on the day of the trip, they will not let you go any further. After passing through passport control, visiting the abandoned village of Cherevach. Further, entering the city of Chernobyl and visiting there are several locations dedicated to the tragedy of 1986. Passing the Lelev checkpoint - entering the 10-km Exclusion Zone, will give us the opportunity to see the former secret military city of Chernoible-2, on the territory of which there are huge antennas that during the Cold War were designed to detect missiles from the United States. After that, a visit to the nuclear plant itself and an evening walk around the ghost town - Pripyat. According to the rules of visiting the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, you must leave its borders before 19:00.

 

     At the moment, the cost of the tour for citizens of Ukraine is $ 49, for citizens of other countries - $ 99.

     Some tour operators can boast, for example, “Aviatour” - a flight over the Exclusion Zone, or “Questtour” - on the territory of Chernobyl and Pripyat.

Recommendations to visitors:

It is not recommended to eat and smoke outdoors;

It is strictly forbidden to export any objects outside the zone;

It is not recommended to drink water from ground sources in the zone.
